Will tulips bloom year after year?

I planted tulips and had great blooms this past Spring (2010). The bulbs remained in the ground after blooming. I was told they will not bloom again this year. I don't believe this is true. I live in Atlanta, GA. Anyone know if they will or if not, why not. I am already seeing the plants start to poke through the ground.
