What is the procedures for selling my car to the body shop after it has been determined a total loss?
I was in an accident and I reported to the insurance company. I had brought my car in to the body shop for the insurance adjuster to come and determine how much it will cost to fix. After they looked at the car, it was determined that it will be a total loss. The body shop owner asked to buy the car from us, so we retained the vehicle from the insurance. Do we just have to fill out the original title with the release of liability of the car to the owner of the body shop and notify the DMV, or do we have to do any additional procedures since it is now it is considered a salvage vehicle. This is in the state of California.
